Individuality in 20th Century Art Essay
20th Century art has spawned great art forms. Its evident transformation had triggered the question of whether or not the development was caused by the pure genius of the artist or by the preceding art that he was born into. This essay will discuss how the artists of the 20th century have made art almost indefinable (Nicolas Pioch, The 20th century) by looking into the quotes of Immanuel Kant (1790) and Andre Malraux (1953), as well as looking at some actual works before and after 1950 which would illustrate that art has clearly become an expression of an artistââ¬â¢s emotions and thoughts as honed by the past. As individuality steps in, we will closely look at how an individualââ¬â¢s person is actually affected by his experiences and orientation on various aspects of his existence such as how he could have been raised, how he may have been exposed to previous artworks and the like. Immanuel Kant, in his quote from the Critique of Judgment (1790) had clearly defined genius as, ââ¬Å"a talent for producing that for which no definite rule can be givenâ⬠. I believe that this is like how scientists are referred to as geniuses, they have defied popular beliefs or what had actually become a norm for their time or era. They would produce materials that are not usual for the majority. Similar to this, I believe that such was also the case as he may have found that an artwork, which proved to be unique for its genre, is already a product of a genius. A good example of what was said to be a work of a genius was that of Vincent Van Goghââ¬â¢s Starry Night and Donatelloââ¬â¢s Crucifix (images shown in the Documentation). These were considered unique and were painted outside the what was considered as standard during their time or era, as these works had clearly defied the usual idea of what our usual picture of the heavens is (Starry Night) as well as the common picture of how Christ was crucified. Texture of these creations also scream of individuality as was the case with Van Goghââ¬â¢s work. As was said by I. Kant, ââ¬Å"originality must be its primary propertyâ⬠for an art to be considered as the work of a genius. It is clear he meant that it was something that was not usually done but did not deduce it to not being influenced at all by artworks that came before them. Instead the focus was on how they have made their creations different from the others without necessarily straying from the same idea or thought. Like in Van Goghââ¬â¢s work, there had already been paintings depicting the heavens at night but its form and texture as well as the colors utilized were clearly out of the ordinary and had been very original despite the presence of previous artworks that had been made. On the other hand, Andre Malrauxââ¬â¢s, ââ¬Å"The Voices of Silenceâ⬠(1953) compared artwork to a child that matures. Meaning that art basically evolves. It does not necessarily veer away from its contemporaries but is created from what he may have experienced. Like a child that may have learned to walk more carefully after acquiring a scratch from a fall, an artist was also said to rise from their own conflicts and the achievements of their predecessors. A person that may have lived within a war-torn era may create an artwork that depicts what he had witnessed, at the same time picking out best practices from works that were previously done by others and using them as inspiration to put his experience or what he had witnessed into a work of art. As such, A. Malraux was right about picking them out ââ¬Å"from their struggle with the forms that others have imposed on lifeâ⬠. We note though, that experiences do not necessarily remain within the context of a personââ¬â¢s personal struggles but can derive thoughts from their successes as well or the comfort that they may have had. A classic example is Jose Manuel Merello Arvillaââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"bodegon electricoâ⬠, which depicts Spainââ¬â¢s colorful yet subdued culture evident in the shades and texture utilized. Similar to this is Vijendra Singh Devraââ¬â¢s painting of a three-part series called the Blue Night, where the texture was actually smooth and the contrast was stark that may be an evidence of the painterââ¬â¢s experiences or social status. It may not be easy to defy the norms. An artist is faced with the risk of being singled out either as great or poor. The genre of which the artwork is in defines the product that the artist creates. As mentioned in ââ¬Å"Necrophilic Logics and the revolt of the imaginationâ⬠, http://www. geocities. com/kk_abacus/carp. html: A split between the rational and irrational is constructed by every rational system; each rationality creates a corresponding irrationality, that which does not fit inside of it. Therefore, each rational system has inherent limits. To break out of a rationality, one must also be capable of conceiving of that which lies beyond the limits of that system. Rational systems can be useful tools but they can also become mental prisons. There is a slim demarcation between the subconscious and the imagination of a person as it says that both are something that goes beyond the inherent limits of manââ¬â¢s rationality. As such, it is clear that an artistââ¬â¢s genius is based on how he creates a unique description of what he has undergone or experienced as well as his absorption of what had been proven effective and successful for other artists as well.

Wish You Well by David Baldacci
Character development is an important part of all novels. A character's mindset can change throughout the story as they go through events that may change there mindset. In Wish You Well by David Baldacci, Oz's personality and attitude change from the beginning to the end of the novel. His point of view alone effects the story. As the book starts off Oz is a little immature boy. He is not self efficient and relies completely on his mother Amanda and his older sister Lou. ââ¬Å"Fortunately, his fearful cries would be replaced by a smile when Oz would at last focused on her, and she would want to hold her son always, keep him safe always. (Baldacci p. 4) Amanda had protected Oz his entire life and made him feel a sense of attachment. He never had to make his own decisions or face an event where his hope or faith was challenged. Until the car accident, his mother was severely injured and his father was killed. ââ¬Å"Oz reached for his mother, incomprehension the only thing between the little boy and possibly fatal panic. â⬠(Baldacci p. 14) This was the first and only time in the story that we see Oz in panic. Lou being older feels she understood more about the world and life than Oz. She had loved her father but clearly did not have the same type of relationship with her mother. After the accident and her father was dead, Lou seemed to get a negative outlook. She never once had a positive thought that possibly her mother could might get better and regain consciousness. Oz on the other hand never lost his faith. He always though positively. Throughout the novel Oz makes comment to his grandmother, diamond, and Lou that his mother could and was getting better. His love for her was so strong that even though deep down he knew the reality of her healing was not likely, he would do whatever he could to make it possibly come true. Oz thinks that wishing for his mother to regain her health at the wishing well will make her better. ââ¬Å"I wish that my mother will wake up and love me again. He paused and then added solemnly, And Lou too. â⬠(Baldacci p. 131) Oz truly cared about his mother and sister and risked his fear to try and make them all happy again. He was truly a caring character who changes from being a shy innocent boy. Into a caring self confident young man. Lou and Oz both loved each other and there mother. However, each characters point of view was different regarding the citation. Lou was kind of angry and tried to think about things realistic. She knew the odds of her mother getting well and there family going back to normal was limited. She realized it and tried to move on. As opposed to Oz who hoped and wished that his mother and Lou would get better and things could go back to the way they were. In the end even though both character's points of view where vastly different, they each helped each other get through some tragic events in the novel together, through love and perseverance.

The Concept of Privacy under the Fourth Amendment Essay
The Concept of Privacy under the Fourth Amendment - Essay Example The right to privacy is stipulated in the 4th amendment of United States Constitution (Hess & Orthmann, 2008). The court argued that making a telephone call is a personal affair; therefore, the FBI and Police Department illegally recorded Katzââ¬â¢s phone call. This is because the 4th amendment barres any state agency to engage in unlawful seizures and searches of American Citizens (Hess & Orthmann, 2008). The 4th amendment of the U.S. Constitution defines what is needed to trespass into any Americanââ¬â¢s right to privacy. It also defines what privacy right means. This amendment is what made the U.S. Supreme Court rule in favour of Katz. This test asks two questions; first, whether a person has a subjective, or actual expectation of privacy. This is evaluated in the context of individual behaviour, case by case, and is focused on the subjective or actual belief of the victim, who is the subject of the search (Hess & Orthmann, 2008). Second, whether or not there is an objective expectation of society. This tests whether there is a substantial expectation of privacy. The majority of the court rejected trespass doctrine, holding that the 4th amendment does not protect things that an individual exposes to the public, but what an individual expects to keep private, in all places, including public areas (Hess & Orthmann,

IT Consultation for Fast Paced Financial Assignment
IT Consultation for Fast Paced Financial - Assignment Example Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) A directory service is a system, which provides a platform for information in a directory to be stored in a systematic manner and makes it easy to retrieve. Information technology defines directory as the path or mapping, which gives differences between names or letters and values. Active Directory Domain services, creates connections of names belonging to network resources and traces them to their intended storage addresses. This makes it easy to retrieve information for any worker within the company since they do not have to recall the exact location of the network resource. As a result, time management is observed and quick turnaround retrieving is enhanced. Active Directory Domain Services gives a platform where information is stored in distributed databases. Information in these databases is easy to maintain and manage. Deploying AD DS in Fast Paced Financial Company will enhance efficient organization of network elements, which entail, co mputers, users and other sharable devices like printers within the organization. In this case, the efficient organization will include hierarchical containment structure. Hierarchical containment structure is distributed to its elements, which include; Active Directory forest, Organizational units and the domains in forest. Benefits, which come with the deployment of AD DS and initiation of hierarchical containment structure include; first, the security of data within the company is guaranteed. The forest creates platforms of authority by administrators and hence each worker will have limits to what they access within the databases. Secondly, AD DS can be partitioned by supplementing domains. The partitioning helps in the replication of information only where it is required. Enhancing the partitioning enables the global scaling of networks, which have inadequate available bandwidth. Finally, AD DS has a feature, which entails stipulated rules, the Schema, which details classes of ob jects. Though Mark Cohen may find it expensive to deploy windows server 2008 network, there is a need to provide scenarios for the need of this system. In a case where Fast Paced Financial Company has not deployed the AD DS network, confidential and standard information within the company are prone to hackers. Information technology has helped develop the world in many aspects but a small number of professions lack ethical attributes to conduct their professionalism. Such people are Forensic: thus, in this case, there will be a need to trap such occurrences where hackers are after you data by implementing security measures within the company. Installation of AD DS will provide security of data, through the administrator logon features, which only allow people with passwords to access the databases; hence, sensitive data is perfectly secure. Fast Paced Financial Forest Structure The FPF Forest structure provides an efficient communication between the administrator and all available d omains. The domains are provided with procedures, rules and platforms to enable them operate efficiently. These elements of the domains include the configurations, which enables the domains to deploy the system, the Schema, which entails rules and the application, which provides platform for operation. Server Outage Information Technology defines Server Outage as slow down operation or lack of operation by the server. Server outage leads to component non-functioning towards the server machines and hence leads to

Self evaluation Personal Statement Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Self evaluation - Personal Statement Example bout their favorite sport is a good enough time pass, plus there are people who indulge in sports simply to keep themselves physically as well as mentally fit and then there is the most common reason, which is to win the game. The outline will be evaluated to see that the contents used are strong enough to have an impact on the audience, positively or are the contents just providing people with the general knowledge, which more or less, everybody knows about and is the speaker has a way and techniques to ensnare and engage the audience or not. Hence, this evaluation will be done on delivery of speech, content of speech and goal. The outline gives an idea that the delivery on the speech will be good as the speaker has highlighted the main essence of the topic and even surge forward with the concept of nutrition and bodily health of sports person. However, if the speaker will include a real life incident of an ordinary person or quotation of a sports person and how sports has kept the particular athlete/person physical and mentally stable, then it will give delivery an appealing sound and will instantly attract the audience. Furthermore, another good aspect of the outline is that it illustrates that the writer have not only stick with the sports playing point of view, but also give an angle on the opinion of the spectators, who are not active participant of a sport. This spectator part can play crucial role as the audience who listened to the speech can somehow connect with the information. Moving to the content of the outline, on a basic level the primary requirements are fulfilled that is the inclusion of introduction, body and conclusion, however on closely looking at it the use of Monroeââ¬â¢s motivated sequence is not very clear and vaguely used. For instance, the first criteria for Monroeââ¬â¢s Motivated Sequence is attention getter, this step usually involves quoting a real life incident, sharing something humorous telling a dramatic tory or posing a question so
You decide Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
You decide - Essay Example not all will be able to use communication as a tool to improve one ââ¬â¢s self professionally, it is used in everyday living and is crucial to more important things. For instance, a relationship may be ruined if there is no proper communication or if there is a lack of it, or misunderstandings occur when one is not so articulate as to get the message through. One of the most important parts of communication probably is persuasive speaking. This is so considered due to the fact that people have the need to be understood and have other people agreeing or supporting oneââ¬â¢s opinions. I consider this the most interesting part of our lesson because I think it is does not just involve the use of words but of emotion, logic and credibility. This is a truly challenging part of communication because it could show how much a speaker is informed about something and may reveal how a person processes information. I think it is also used daily in many forms because as mentioned earlier, people have the need to be understood and have their opinions supported by others. Therefore, a good reputation may help a lot for a speaker to be heard and believed. No one would definitely listen to a carpenter speaking about medicine but people will rely on information brought by a specialist known to have spent years of study in his field. Moreover, a display of emotion in persuasive speaking helps a lot. For instance, a scientist calls for support for a program that would help deter global warming; he might need to use emotions to convince listeners the need for the promotion. What is most interesting to me about persuasive speaking is the logic used behind it. During the process, a speaker should remember that his listeners do not believe the same things he does and it is his job to convince them and have them agree with him. One cannot just manipulate people to believe things as another person does or to agree with every word a speaker says but, through words and the display of

Compostion article Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Compostion article - Essay Example Researchers have presented that basic research literacy courses are not appealing to students, and they usually have negative feelings towards it. The Human Resources Development in Canada had expressed that employers have found skills developed through research courses as vital for work (as cited in Shipwright et al., 2010, p. 574). The researchers were burdened of this need, and thus aimed to enhance learning in the said courses through the use of an online graphic novel called Citizen Researcher (CR). Through this multimedia, they intend to stimulate the studentsââ¬â¢ interest in research. Guided by these goals, there are four research questions formulated for this study: (1) What impact does CR have on studentsââ¬â¢ perceptions of their research literacy skills?; (2) What is the studentsââ¬â¢ level of satisfaction with the course content, design delivery method and learning activities?; (3) What are studentsââ¬â¢ experiences with CR?; and (4) What are the strengths, c hallenges and barriers associated with this new model of course delivery? (p. 576). These are ventured in order to determine the effects of the technology in the studentsââ¬â¢ learning. Although research literacy courses may be boring and irrelevant to students, utilization of an online graphic novel to arouse their interest and assist in their learning needs may be seen to be of benefit. Details of the said study, through its methods, results, conclusions, strengths and limitations, et cetera, are reviewed and analyzed in order to appreciate the significance of such endeavor. Review and Analysis I. Methods A descriptive study using surveys and interviews was conducted among 18 full-time undergraduate students in 14 programs, who were attending post-secondary college in a large city (p. 576). Three surveys were made, one demographic, and pre-post Research Literacy Competency surveys. The demographic survey provided a profile for the learners, including their reading habits and In ternet skills. The Research Literacy Competency survey conducted before exposing the respondents to the multimedia is used as baseline data for the Research Literacy Competency survey completed after they have utilized the CR. The post-CR exposure survey contained three open-ended items to ask participants for their opinions and suggestions regarding the multimedia. The tools used for both pre- and post Research Literacy Competency surveys are reported to be valid by the Cronbach alpha, and thus said to be reliable. All these mentioned measures are based on self-reports of the learners. Individual telephone interviews which lasted for 10 to 20 minutes, and participated by seven students, were made in order to better understand their experiences with the CR. The interviews utilized a structured guide, then they were taped and transcribed. II. Results and Conclusions The results of the pilot study show and further verify the conclusion of previous literature that using the multimedia yielded satisfactory experiences and it became an instrument to learn research literacy skills (p. 581). Learning the importance of critical thinking is reported by the students, and activities in the CR reinforced key concepts in research. There is also a noticeable significant increase in scores from the pre-course survey as compared to the post-course survey, which is evidence that the multimedia is effective in enhancing the knowledge of the respondents. Although there are positive results,
